It seems like the international judges are finally devaluing bad ring
leaps/jumps. Cata really needs to fix hers or reconstruct her routine
because the d-score got hammered at the Szombathely World Cup. Some of her connections also weren’t credited, so it seems like the international judges won’t be crediting questionable connections like the ones at US Nationals were. She was
going for a 6.5 routine, but only got credited 5.6.

What I believe got credit:

Layout Mount (F)
BHS (B) + LOSO © + LOSO © 0.2
Swtich Split Leap © + Kochetkova (D) 0.1
Stretched Jump 1/1 ©
Onodi (D) + Ring Jump (B) 0.1
Switch Split Leap (repeat element, no value)
Aerial (D) + Split Jump (B) 0.1
Omelianchik (D)
Wolf Jump (A) + Sissone (A)
Full Turn (A)
Round off (B) + Double Pike (E)

Top 5 Acro: F, E, D, D, D
Top 3 Dance: C, C, B
Top 8 Elements: 3.1
CV: 0.5
CR: 2.0
D-Score: 5.6

What she was going for:

Layout Mount (F)

BHS (B) + LOSO © + LOSO © 0.2

Switch Split Leap © + Kochetkova (D) + Stretched Jump 1/1 © 0.3

Onodi (D) + Split Ring Jump (D) 0.2

Switch Ring (E)

Aerial (D) + Split Jump (B) + Omelianchik (D) 0.3

Wolf Jump (A) + Sissone (A)

Full Turn (A)

Round off (B) + Double Pike (E)

Top 5 Acro: F, E, D, D, D

Top 3 Dance: E, D, C

Top 8 Elements: 3.5

CV: 1.0

CR: 2.0

D-Score: 6.5

I’m really happy that judges are finally being strict on ring elements!

I was thinking they may have downgraded her jump 1/1 though bc she landed sideways and the code says landing sideways doesn’t make an element different, so this would be considered a jump ½ turn (which isn’t an element). Not sure though.

This video kind of explains where they think she got hammered.  I do think that her mount probably got devalued though.  I’m glad they’re being strict on the ring jumps because her switch ring is not cute

What I don’t get about this video is why they had her switch ring downgraded to a D? What element would it be downgraded to? The only D element I can think of is the split ring leap and I don’t there is any new rule saying questionable switch rings are downgraded to a D instead of a C? And the problem with Cata’s switch ring isn’t the leg change, which would cause the downgrade to a split ring leap. It’s the ring position and an insufficient ring position would lead to it being downgraded to a switch split leap, which is a C and since she already did it in her routine, it would get no credit/value.

I actually think I did read something posted by the fig not too long ago about how they would start devalueing the switch ring to a D. Kind of like what they do with the layout. I always thought the issue with cata’s was that she doesn’t seem to hit the ring position while her front leg is at horizontal so she never actually has the complete leap position

I think I might have found it http://www.fig-gymnastics.com/publicdir/rules/files/en_WAG%20Help%20Desk%20(Edition%205).pdf

I think Cata falls into the 4th row

Thank you! This explains it.

oh ffs… just credit the element (what they were going for) and deduct appropriately for whatever’s wrong with it. fig is crazy.

I feel like devaluing a letter when there is an execution error is so stupid for layouts and ring leaps. Just credit the element and take the execution deductions or devalue it to an element that actually exists. Like for example in the switch ring picture, I think #1 and #5 should get switch ring/E credit and the execution deductions mentioned, but #2-4 should be downgraded to switch split leaps © and get a 0.1 deduction for the back leg not being straight.

Guys I have written two articles explaining what went on http://www.wogymnast.com/2017/09/d-score-judges-severely-downgrade.html
